Kate takes official birthday portrait of Camilla

The Duchess of Cornwall has been photographed for her 75th birthday – by the Duchess of Cambridge.

Camilla asked Kate to take an official picture to mark her milestone celebration. The image will feature on the front of the special edition of Country Life magazine which the Duchess of Cornwall has edited as part of her birthday festivities.

The photo shows Camilla in the garden of her home, Raymill House, in Wiltshire. She is seen sitting on a bench with a basket of pelargoniums which she is about to plant.

The photo is one of two taken by Kate for the magazine. Another, showing Camilla amidst the flowers of her garden, will be published inside the special edition of the magazine on July 13th 2022.

The Duchess of Cornwall has taken over the magazine for a one off version marking her 75th birthday. The Prince of Wales has edited the magazine twice before with his November 2018 version becoming the best selling one in the magazine’s 125 year history. The Princess Royal also guest edited the magazine to mark her 70th birthday in 2020.

Ahead of its publication, Mark Hedges, Editor-in-Chief of Country Life said ”We are thrilled to have our Guest Editor captured so magnificently by royal photographer The Duchess of Cambridge. We understand this is the first time a formal portrait of The Duchess of Cornwall has been taken by The Duchess of Cambridge for a magazine and we are honoured to have been chosen to be the first to publish this beautiful photograph.”

And he added that he would happily ”offer the Duchess of Cambridge another commission!”

Country Life, edited by the Duchess of Cornwall, will be published in the UK on July 13th 2022.
