Prince William joined another heir to the throne, His Highness Theyazin bin Haitham, to launch a groundbreaking expedition.
The Prince of Wales joined the heir to the Omani throne at the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington on Monday to launch the “Jewel of Arabia” expedition.
The expedition will see explorer and guide Mark Evans MBE lead a group of six in the footsteps of Bertram Thomas. Thomas carried out his own journey in 1928 when he spent 42 days traversing the Omani coast.
The two princes, who are also serving as co-patrons, were able to view some of Thomas’s historical maps and photographs from his original expedition.
The 2025 expedition has been planned to help highlight Oman’s biodiversity and natural heritage. The group will also be joined along the way by several different young people to draw attention to the next generation’s role in protecting the environment.
Evans and his group will be traveling by foot, by camel, and by 4×4 throughout.
Prince William shared his warm wishes for the explorers, saying ”This exhibition will not only highlight Oman’s rich biodiversity and natural heritage… But it also symbolizes the enduring friendship between our two countries…I wish I was able to join you, but I’ll be following it very closely.”
The Prince of Wales first visited Oman in 2019.
