Harry reveals a new hobby as he and Meghan visit a community cafe in Birkenhead

The Duke of Sussex has revealed he is a fan of meditation during a visit to Birkenhead. Prince Harry spoke about meditating with a Buddhist monk he met as he popped into a community cafe during a day of engagements in the town.

Harry shared his news with Kelsang Sonam, telling him he meditates every day, while the monk presented him with a book called ”8 Steps to Happiness”. The Duchess of Sussex has made no secret of her passion for meditation in the past.

Harry’s reveal came as he and Meghan visited Number 7, a citizens supermarket and cafe which has been set up in Birkenhead to help those on lower incomes. The couple officially opened the facility which is run by Feeding Britain, a coalition of community groups, churches and food banks. As well as offering access to discounted goods, Number 7 also offers advice on benefits and support services as well as managing budgets and getting out of debt. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex chatted to many of those working there as well as customers.

During their stop at Number 7, Meghan also shared more royal baby news, confirming what many suspected – that she and Harry don’t know whether they will welcome a girl or boy when the littlest Sussex arrives later this year. As she presented a basket of baby goods to another expectant mum, Angel Midgley, she joked that neither of them should be attempting to lift the gift up before saying that the royal couple have decided to keep their baby’s gender a surprise. Earlier in the day, Meghan had revealed that the couple’s first baby is due at the end of April, telling one wellwisher that she is now six months’ pregnant.

The visit to Number 7 was part of a busy day of engagements in Birkenhead for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. They viewed a new bronze sculpture at Hamilton Square depicting a soldier and erected to mark the centenary of the death of the poet, Wilfred Owen, who grew up in the town. Harry and Meghan also visited Tomorrow’s Women Wirral, an organisation offering support to women in vulnerable circumstances. The final engagement of the day took Harry and Meghan to ‘The Hive’, a youth service which offers a safe environment for children and teenagers to learn new skills and meet new friends.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s next scheduled public engagement is on January 16th 2019 when they will attend a performance of the new Cirque du Soleil show, TOTEM, at the Royal Albert Hall being put on in support of Harry’s charity, Sentebale.
