Since Diana, Princess of Wales has arrived on Netflix’s The Crown, we’re looking at some of her best style moments from 1980s. Today, let’s look at some of her best looks from 1985.

Diana wore a shimmery ice blue evening dress when she was photographed leaving a Bruce Oldfield fashion show on 28 March 1985.

For an audience with Pope John Paul II at the Vatican in April 1985, Diana wore a black dress with black veil, adhering to the strict protocols around dressing to meet the Pope.

Charles and Diana took Prince William to his first day of nursery school on 25 September. Diana wore a blue sweater with a black pattern over it and a long black skirt.

On 9 November, Diana danced straight into the history books with John Travolta at a White House reception. Her midnight blue velvet evening dress, designed by Victor Edelstein, and subsequently renamed the Travolta Dress, sold at auction in 2019 for £264,000. The charity, Historic Royal Palaces, returned the dress to its former glory and it is now displayed with the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection.

Diana attended the London premiere of Back to the Future on 3 December in a red velvet Catherine Walker evening dress that featured a plunging back.
