Queen Camilla

The Queen appoints a horse to carry the rank of Major – the first mare to ever hold the honour

The Queen has made a Welsh mare the first ever female horse to be named a Household Cavalry Drum Horse.

The Shire Horse, who was named Juno by Queen Camilla, will lead the mounted parade at the the King’s birthday parade on Saturday.

This is the first time that a mare has ever held such an honour.

The horse was formerly called Willa Rose, however, when meeting the mare at Clarence House, Her Majesty settled on the name Juno.

Juno was raised at Dyfed Shire Horse Farm, in Eglwyswrw, Pembrokeshire, a location which has produced a number of horses over the years for the Household Cavalry.

She will lead the mounted parade at the King’s birthday parade on Saturday where she will carry the rank of Major.

Juno has undergone an extensive two-year training programme ahead of her role.
