Queen Camilla to start her own podcast

Queen Camilla is bringing her love of literature to a new platform in the new year: the Queen plans to launch a Reading Room tie-in podcast.

In an Instagram reel, The Queen’s Reading Room announced that their brand-new podcast will be a “place for book lovers—and those who wish they loved literature a little more—to be inspired by the bookish confessions of global literary heroes” and a series to delve “into the homes and hearts of authors that we love the most.”

The podcast will invite authors from across the globe to discuss their own favourite books, their favourite authors, and how literature has helped them throughout their lives.

The Queen’s Reading Room teases a few future guests, asking “Who does Sir Ian Rankin read when he is low? Where does David Baddiel stash his fiction and which masterpiece has Ann Patchett given up on again and again?”

The Queen’s Reading Room Podcast will launch on 8 January 2024 on all podcasting platforms.

Queen Camilla launched her online reading room in January 2021 and it developed as a book club during the COVID-19 pandemic; it has since transformed into a fully-fledged charity inspiring literature lover all over the world, and took on its new name in February 2023.

Queen Camilla has said about reading: “To me reading is a great adventure, I have loved it since I was very small and I would love everybody else to enjoy it as much as I do.  You can escape, and you can travel, and you can laugh and you can cry. Every type of emotion which humans experience is in a book.”

She credits her father with inspiring her love of reading and has made literacy and literature a cornerstone of her royal work.
