The Duchess of Cambridge speaks of hypnobirthing and the “terrifying” Lindo Wing walk

The Duchess of Cambridge has given a candid interview during a podcast by Giovanna Fletcher of “Happy Mum Happy Baby.” The podcast was recorded after the Duchess of Cambridge visited Birmingham for the 5 Big Questions on the Under Fives.

The Duchess of Cambridge spoke about how she used hypnobirthing and the “terrifying” moment she stepped out of the Lindo Wing with Prince George. She also spoke of how she suffered with hyperemesis gravidarum.

“I got very bad morning sickness, so I am not the happiest of pregnant people. It was definitely a challenge. I wasn’t eating the things I should be eating and yet the body was still able to take all the goodness from my body and to grow new life.”

She then spoke of the hypnobirthing, which she discovered after being so ill with morning sickness. “It was through hyperemesis that I really realised the power of the mind over the body because I really had to try everything.” She added, “I am not going to say that William was standing there chanting sweet nothings at me, he definitely wasn’t, I didn’t ask him about it but it was something I wanted to do for myself. It was hugely powerful.”

When asked what it was like having so many people waiting outside, The Duchess of Cambridge said: “Slightly terrifying, I am not going to lie. Everyone had been so supportive and this was something that everyone was so excited about and we are hugely grateful the support the public has shown us and for us to be able to share that joy and appreciation with the public I felt was really important. But equally, it was coupled with a newborn baby and inexperience. It was all sorts of mixed emotions.”
