The Duchess of Cambridge joins the Duke of Kent in the Royal Box at Wimbledon

The Duchess of Cambridge joined the Duke of Kent in the Royal Box at Wimbledon on Friday.

Located on centre court, the Royal Box hosted Their Royal Highnesses for the very best of the tennis action on Friday afternoon.

British players Dan Evans and Sir Andy Murray are among those playing in their third round matches on the court.

This is the Duke of Kent’s third visit to Wimbledon this week, having also attended on Monday and Wednesday.

It is a first visit to the 2021 Championships for the Duchess of Cambridge.

The Duke of Kent has been long associated with Wimbledon, having become president of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in 1969.

The Duke succeeded his mother, Princess Marina, as president following her death, and has attended the championships regularly ever since.

Despite being one of the hardest working members of The Royal Family for seven decades, the Duke is probably still best known by the public for being the person who presents the trophies at Wimbledon.

The Duchess of Cambridge is also a huge tennis fan, and became patron of the All England Club in 2017.

A keen tennis player herself, Catherine attends the Wimbledon Championships most years, and was presented with an honorary membership to the All England Tennis Club in January 2013.

The Duchess plays regularly and has been quoted as saying it’s one of only two sports she can beat Prince William at.

Founded on 23 July 1868 The Club went through several changes and names before becoming The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in 1899.

The Championships at Wimbledon – commonly referred to simply as ‘Wimbledon’ – is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and was first held in 1877.

Taking place every year in a two-week period at the end of June and beginning of July the tournament is the only Major still played on grass and considered the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world.
