Rami Malek reveals how he surprised the Duchess of Cambridge

No Time to Die star Rami Malek has had quite an exciting few years, winning an Oscar for his role as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and starring in other blockbuster films. But when it comes to speaking with the Royal Family, he might need to take some more lessons.

In an interview with American talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, Malek revealed a conversation he had with the Duchess of Cambridge at the BAFTAs several years ago: “I just looked at Princess Kate at one point and I said, ‘This must be exhausting,’ and she said, ‘Why?’ And I said, ‘You just had a baby, right?’ She was taken aback, and she said, ‘How are you doing?’ And I said, ‘How are you?’ And in the most regal, elegant way she gave me a look, but you can tell. Imagine dressed to the nines, having to talk to all these actors.”

Continuing on the conversation, Malek said of the royals on a more general note: “They’re so careful, but it was so cool because I think I caught her off-guard for a second and had that look of, in the most elegant, professional, royal way, ‘Yes, it’s a lot having a kid.’”

The star went on to reveal he did offer his babysitting services to the Duchess. “The funniest thing about that is, I said, ‘You know, if you ever need time off, I’m backup for you.’ She’s like, ‘What do you mean?’ I said, ‘You guys go out, have a good time.’

The candid conversation happened a little more than six months after the Duchess welcomed her third child, Prince Louis. Malek most recently caught up with the Duchess at the No Time to Die premiere earlier this month.
