Britain at its best during crisis says Duke of Cambridge

The Duke of Cambridge has said Britain is at its best during a crisis during a video conversation with a charity in Wales that runs a food bank and supports those isolated by delivering hot meals.

“I think Britain is at its best when faced with a crisis…We all pull together and that community spirit comes rushing back quicker than anything else,” Prince William said during the discussion.

The Duke spoke to various grassroots charities on Thursday, 9 April to discuss the challenges they are facing and to see how they are using National Emergency Trust (NET) Coronavirus Appeal funding to support their communities.

His Royal Highness first spoke to Moorlands Community Charity in the East Riding of Yorkshire, which runs the food bank to help those in isolated communities, which has seen an uptick in calls since the outbreak of COVID-19. Moorlands was able to access NET funding quickly and uses it to purchase emergency rations of things like female sanitary products and baby milk powder.

He then talked to Dal Dy Dir, a community farm in Wales that supports those who have disabilities and those in marginalised groups. They have used NET funding to continue to help families caring for children with challenging behaviours by delivering food parcels.

Kensington Palace announced on Sunday that William had become the patron of the NET for 2020.

After devastating tragedies over the past few years, the NET was created in 2019 after discussions with those in the charitable sector about how to effectively respond to national emergencies.

“The Trust works collaboratively with charities and other bodies to direct public donations to NET appeals and to distribute funds fairly and efficiently through community foundations across the UK,” according to Kensington Palace.
