Blue is the colour as Buckingham Palace welcomes thousands to the Coronation garden party

The gardens of Buckingham Palace were filled with thousands of guests just days after the Coronation as the second garden party of the season took place on its lawns.

The Prince of Wales hosted the event on behalf of King Charles III and was joined by the Princess of Wales in welcoming guests. Also present were the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh with both royal ladies choosing different shades of blue for the occassion.

The Princess wore an Elie Saab dress first seen at Ascot in 2019.

The Princess Royal also attended (in cream) along with the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester (who chose brown).

The Coronation Garden Party, on May 9th 2023, marked the end of five days of celebrations for the crowning of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Guests from organisations including the RNLI and Brinsworth House were among those mingling with the royals and enjoying tea, sandwiches and cakes in the famous gardens.

The Prince of Wales met Dame Elizabeth Watts during the party and heard how she had now seen three Coronations, including that of Queen Elizabeth II when she slept out for three nights to secure a good viewing sport and ended up drenched by torrential rain.

King Charles is continuing that tradition of hosting a series of garden parties through the summer at Buckingham Palace and at Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. His Majesty, along with Queen Camilla, hosted the first party of the season just before the Coronation.

The King and Queen are currently at Sandringham following the celebrations that followed the ceremony at Westminster Abbey on May 6th 2023.
