Peter Phillips on whether The Queen was kept waiting for Trump: “The footage speaks for itself”

During a rally in Pennsylvania this week, US President Donald Trump claimed that he had been waiting for 15 minutes to meet The Queen last month in Windsor, despite video footage proving it was, in fact, the Monarch waiting for Mr Trump to arrive.

Footage from the event showed the 92-year-old Queen stood on the podium outside of Windsor Castle for 15 minutes, waiting for the arrival of the President.

Speaking on breakfast television, Her Majesty’s eldest grandson, Peter Phillips, said that the footage speaks for itself as to who was waiting for who.

When asked on Good Morning Britain whether The Queen had arrived last, the 40-year-old royal said: “To be honest the video footage probably speaks for itself – with her waiting for the President.

“But fortunately we weren’t involved in the day, so we can’t comment further.”

Despite the video footage showing the monarch waiting for the arrival of the President, Donald Trump claimed it was the other way round.

He said: “I landed and I’m on the ground and I’m waiting with the King’s and the Queen’s guards, wonderful people. I’m waiting.

“I was about 15 minutes early and I’m waiting with my wife and that’s fine. Hey, it’s the Queen, right? We can wait. But I’m a little early.

“So I then go up and meet the Queen and she is fantastic We then go up and we have tea. And I didn’t know this, it was supposed to last 15 minutes but it lasted like an hour. Because we got along. And she liked our first lady and our first lady liked her.”

Also appearing on Good Morning Britain was Captain Mark Phillips, the former husband of Princess Anne and father to Peter and Zara.

He admitted that he had been late “once or twice” for his former mother-in-law.

The interviewer asked Captain Phillips whether he ever got into trouble over his lateness, to which he smiled and replied: “She is a great lady, and really, we’re very lucky to have her.”
