
The King and Queen will host a special tea party at Buckingham Palace to mark 80 years since VE Day.
Their Majesties will open the Palace doors to veterans and members of the World War Two generation on May 5th as a week of commemorations get under way.
Other members of the Royal Family are expected to join them at the event which will follow a spectacular military procession and fly past marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe which brought to an end World War Two on the continent.
The following day, Queen Camilla will be at the Tower of London to see a new installation of ceramic poppies. They are being planted around the Tower to remember all those killed in World War Two and in conflict.
On the anniversary itself, May 8th 2025, the Royal Family will attend a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey. They will join the nation in two minutes of silence to remember those lost.
The Prince and Princess of Wales will join The King and Queen at the Abbey along with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Anne and Sir Tim Laurence. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent will also attend.
At the end of the service, the Royal Family will lay flowers at the Innocent Victims’ Memorial outside Westminster Abbey which remembers all the civilians who have suffered torture, oppression and death in conflict around the world.
As the commemorations draw to a close, the Royal Family will attend a live concert at Horse Guards Parade that will be broadcast on the BBC.
VE Day took place on May 8th 1945, ending six years of war in Europe. World War Two finally ended in August 1945 when the Allies accepted the surrender of Japan.
