With the absence of state visits to the UK this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are taking a look back at the Dutch state visit to the UK that began on this day in 2018.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima undertook a two-day state visit to the UK from 23 to 24 October 2018 on the invitation of Her Majesty The Queen. The couple stayed at Buckingham Palace as guests of The Queen.

After the visit had concluded, the Dutch King and Queen tweeted: “Many thanks to Queen Elizabeth and her family for the warm welcome we received. The ties between our kingdoms have always been close and will remain so, both now and in the future. It’s been a wonderful state visit!”

Let’s take a look back at their state visit in photos:
