A hat trick of royal babies for 2021

2021 is proving to be the year of royal babies for the British Royal Family. The Queen will have a hat trick of new great-grandchildren including Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s son, and the upcoming births of the children from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Zara and Mike Tindall.

Royal Central is breaking down the new bundles of joy joining the monarchy this year and where they will stand in line to succession of the throne.

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank

On 9 February, Princess Eugenie and her husband of two years, Jack Brooksbank, welcomed their son into the world. He was born at 08:55 GMT at the Portland Hospital in central London, weighing 8lbs 1 oz.

The baby, who has yet to be named as of 15 February, is The Queen’s ninth great-grandchild and is 11th in line to the throne. He will drop down to 12th when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have their second child.

The palace said in a statement: “The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex

On 14 February, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they were expecting their second child. A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess said: “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”

The child could be the first senior royal born in the United States. He or she will be The Queen’s tenth or eleventh (depending on if it is born before or after Zara’s child) great-grandchild and eighth in the British line of succession.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said The Queen, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, and the entire Royal Family is “delighted” and wishes the couple well.

The couple announced in November that Meghan suffered a miscarriage in the summer of 2020.

Zara Tindall, the daughter of the Princess Royal, is expecting her third child with former England rugby player Mike Tindall. Zara is currently 19th in line to the throne, but unlike her mother, she is not a working member of the monarchy. Should there only be two other royal babies this year, Zara and Mike’s third child will be 22nd in the line of succession.
