The Royal Family’s estate at Balmoral could soon be hosting weddings.
Plans have been submitted to turn one of the buildings there into a venue for marriages.
The submission, to Aberdeenshire Council, also requests permission to use the space for meetings as well as dinners and ”other events”.
The plans are for the Queen’s Building on the estate. It is currently used for visitors while the castle’s staff also use it as an events area.
The Queen’s Building stands just a few hundred yards from the main royal residence at Balmoral.
The castle has been a Royal Family favourite since the 1850s when Prince Albert had it rebuilt for Queen Victoria. The couple spent many holidays there with their nine children.
It was also a favourite of Queen Elizabeth II who always used to pass her summers in Balmoral. It was where she chose to spend the final months of her life. Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral on September 8th 2022.
The plans will now have to be considered by Aberdeenshire Council. The submission states that all parties in the building would be finished by half past midnight and all music would be kept low.
The submission also shows ideas to transform the outside of the building to create a patio area for 144 guests.
King Charles opened up Balmoral to paying visitors for the first time in 2024. His Majesty prefers to spend his time in Aberdeenshire at nearby Birkhall.
