The Princess of Wales raves for “wonderfully powerful, moving and inspiring” ballet after private visit

The Princess of Wales took in a matinee performance of the English National Ballet’s newest production of ‘Giselle’ and took to social media to rave about the show.

In a personal tweet, Catherine wrote: “Congratulations and thank you to @ENBallet and @Sadlers_Wells for the wonderfully powerful, moving and inspiring performance of Akram Khan’s Giselle. Creativity at its best! C”

Kensington Palace shared that Catherine attended the Thursday afternoon matinee in a private capacity. The royal was so moved by the performance that she tweeted after the production.

‘Giselle’ is a classic ballet, a romantic two-act performance that tells the tale of Giselle, a tragic peasant who descends into madness following the deception of the Duke that loves her and later becomes a ghost, haunting with the other tragic maidens who died before their weddings.

This production by the English National Ballet has toured the country for five years and returned to London recently.

At the beginning of September, Queen Camilla paid a visit to the English National Ballet facilities at the Canary Wharf to help commemorate their upcoming 75th season. During her visit, she met with Akram Khan and saw rehearsals for ‘Giselle’ before it opened.

Queen Camilla became Royal Patron of the English National Ballet earlier this year.

Catherine’s visit to the English National Ballet comes on the heels of her announcement that she has begun planning for this year’s Together at Christmas carol service, an annual hallmark hosted by the royal at Westminster Abbey.

The Princess of Wales has begun slowly returning to work, hosting meetings out of Windsor Castle since her announcement earlier this month that she has completed her chemotherapy treatments.

The royal said that staying cancer-free will continue to be her priority, but that she plans to ease back into work and will join the Royal Family at major events, like Remembrance Sunday.

“Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life,” Catherine said in a video released in early September.
