The Princess of Wales made a much-welcome return to public duties Saturday evening, accompanying her husband to the Festival of Remembrance.
Catherine, who has made only a handful of public appearances this year due to surgery and chemotherapy, was the senior-most royal lady in attendance Saturday evening.
Queen Camilla, who had already withdrawn from engagements this week due to a chest infection, announced earlier in the day that she would be unable to attend the Festival of Remembrance and the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph on doctor’s orders.
The Princess of Wales wore a black coatdress and red poppy, with pearl earrings that once belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales, on her ears.
The Festival of Remembrance is an annual showcase organised by the Royal British Legion in honour of those who served and sacrificed.
This year’s Festival of Remembrance featured performances by Sir Tom Jones, Jack Savoretti, Samantha Barks, Alexandra Burke, and Jake Isaac.
Scenes recognised the 80th anniversary of the turning point during the Second World War, the conflicts in Kosovo and Afghanistan, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the 70th anniversary of NATO, and the role the Royal British Legion plays in today’s society.
Catherine is due to attend Sunday’s commemoration at the Cenotaph alongside her husband as she begins a slow return to public duties.
The royal is also hard at work planning her annual Together at Christmas carol service, which will occur in December at Westminster Abbey before premiering on ITV on Christmas Eve.
