Queen Camilla will distribute Maundy Money this year on behalf of The King.
The Monarch traditionally hands out purses of coins at a special ceremony dating back centuries.
King Charles continues to restrict himself to private, constitutional duties as he is treated for cancer.
Her Majesty will hand out the Maundy Money for The King at a service at Worcester Cathedral.
The cathedral also announced that the service would be held there, sharing its excitement ahead of the ceremony which takes place on March 28th 2024.
For centuries, the Monarch has handed out symbolic coins to recipients as part of a ceremony reflecting Jesus’ instructions to his disciples at the Last Supper, to love one another. Now, those who receive the Maundy Gift are chosen for their contribution to community life. There are always as many men and as many women as the King’s age to receive the gift – this year, there were to be 75 in each group.
They will be handed two purses of specially minted coins by Queen Camilla.
The traditional service has taken many forms over the years. The most unusual came in 2020 during the first Covid lockdown when Queen Elizabeth II distributed Maundy Money by post.
