Queen Camilla becomes a Barbie doll

Queen Camilla is now living in the Barbie world after being presented with a lookalike doll on Tuesday.

The Queen, who was joined by her Belgian counterpart, Queen Mathilde, and the Duchess of Gloucester, was hosting a reception at Buckingham Palace for International Women’s Day and the Women of the World (WOW) Festival Bus Tour.

While aboard the tour bus—which has travelled up and down the United Kingdom hosting workshops for young women to help build resilience, mental health and wellbeing—Queen Camilla was given a personal Barbie doll by WOW organisers, and was visibly overjoyed at the gift.

“Brilliant. You’ve taken about 50 years off my life,” Queen Camilla said, admiring the doll.

Queen Camilla’s doll was specially presented to her by Mattel, with Barbie’s Senior Vice President and Global Head of Dolls flying in personally to give it to her. “We were just tickled that the Queen wanted to play Barbie,” Krista Berger said afterwards.

The Queen’s office had collaborated with Mattel on what the doll would wear, ultimately matching in a miniature blue dress and black cape to mimic the Queen’s dress by Fiona Clare and a cape by Amanda Wakeley.

“We should all have a Barbie,” Queen Camilla said.

Queen Camilla joins her late mother-in-law in being immortalised by Barbie. In 2022, Queen Elizabeth II’s likeness became a Signature Collection Barbie to mark her Platinum Jubilee. Unlike Queen Elizabeth II’s Barbie, Queen Camilla’s is a one-off that is not available for sale to the public.

After the WOW reception, the Royal Family’s social media posted a tongue-in-cheek video of the Queen Barbie popping up around Buckingham Palace while the soundtrack from last summer’s Barbie movie played over the clips.
