The Princess of Wales headed straight for the ticket queue as she made her first visit to Wimbledon of 2026.
Kate, who is Patron of the All England Tennis and Croquet Club which hosts the famous tennis tournament, was at SW19 bright and early but well away from the royal box.
Instead, she started this year’s visits to to Championships by meeting some of those queuing up to get into the grounds for a day of tennis.
Strolling along the line, Kate stopped frequently to chat to those waiting to get in and pose for selfies with them.
Then there was a royal duty of a different kind as the Princess helped scan tickets as admissions got under way.
Later, she headed inside to watch some tennis but, again, she skipped the royal box. Instead, the Princess of Wales went to the outside courts for her first glimpse of the tennis for the year.
Sitting with former British number one and semi finalist, Tim Henman, the Princess watched the country’s latest hope, Arthur Fery, as he played out a four set win to move into the third round of the men’s singles.
Kate also made it courtside to see Katie Swan in action against Madison Keys. She had Wimbledon royalty with her for that match as two times singles champion, Sir Andy Murray, joined the Princess of Wales in the stands.
There was a style moment, too, as Kate chose to wear trousers to Wimbledon for the first time ever. Despite it being 2026, there still appeared to be some surprise that the Princess of Wales, who often wears trouser suits on royal engagements, had decided to ditch the dresses for her visit to SW19.
This is Kate’s first official appearance since completing the arduous Three Peaks challenge at the weekend. The climb involves scaling the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in a 24 hour period. The Princess of Wales said she wanted to do the challenge as she was so glad ot be able to, after recovering from cancer which was diagnosed in 2024. She also wanted to raise support for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity – the Princess of Wales was treated at the Royal Marsden when she underwent preventative chemotherapy after cancer was discovered during major abdominal surgery. Kate later announced she is in remission.
The Princess of Wales is expected to return to Wimbledon several times in the coming days and will present the trophies at the Men’s and Women’s Singles Finals which take place on 11 and 12 July.
