King Frederik proclaims love for Greenland in a sharp statement

King Frederik affirmed his support for Greenland, an autonomous nation of which he is head of state, in a sharp statement.

Amidst the ongoing rhetoric of the United States ‘acquiring’ the country by any means necessary, King Frederik told Denmark’s TV2 that “We live in an altered reality. There should be no doubt that my love for Greenland and my connectedness to the people of Greenland are intact.”

To further drive home the message, the Danish Royal Court shared it on social media in Danish, Greenlandic, and English.

King Frederik made the comments ahead of a visit to Vordingborg, where he opened the new LIFE Lab Zealand, a science teaching lab for students in the area.

The topic of the United States taking over Greenland has been a principle talking point of the new administration, though Greenland is virtually universally opposed to the idea. The administration has made repeated statements about how vital the acquisition is to US interests and for the world. The Vice President and Second Lady are currently visiting the Nordic country, though they have not received a warm welcome.

Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said at a press conference on Friday: “At a time when we as a people are under pressure, we must stand together.”
