A special drawing by one of Britain’s best loved illustrators and writers will feature on the front of the order of service for the Princess of Wales’s annual Christmas carol service.
Charlie Mackesy has created a bespoke image for the event which focuses on the theme chosen for the service by the Princess, the importance of love and empathy, and how much we need each other, especially in the most difficult times of our lives.
The image shows people walking through the snow, arms around one another, and features a simple message in Charlie Mackesy’s unmistakable handwriting which reads ”‘How did I help?’ ‘You were by my side. Which was everything.’’

Over 1,600 guests attending the service will be given a copy on the front of their programme as well as receiving a letter from the Princess of Wales thanking them for all they have done to comfort and support those who need help the most.
Charlie Mackesy is one of the most popular authors in the country and his 2019 work, ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’ remains on bestseller lists. It is built around the importance of kindness and friendship and became a huge hit during the early months of the pandemic in particular.
The carol service, Together at Christmas, takes place on December 6th with many members of the Royal Family in attendance. It will be shown on ITV and ITVX on Christmas Eve.
