The Queen honours her Director of Communications as she leaves her role

The Queen has honoured her Director of Royal Communications who leaves her role this week at Buckingham Palace for pastures new.

Sally Osman was received in audience by the monarch on Tuesday where she was invested with the Insignia of a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order.

Ms Osman spent four years as Director of Royal Communications where she oversaw the running of the press offices for each member of The Royal Family.

Prior to this appointment, in 2013, she was Communications Secretary to the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

The Royal Victorian Order was first established in 1896 by Queen Victoria and is invested personally by the monarch for those who have served The Queen in a special way.

Before entering royal life, Ms Osman worked for Sony as Director of Corporate Communications. She has also worked at the BBC as Director of Communications.

Earlier this year, The Daily Mail was forced to apologise to Ms Osman over an incorrect article surrounding her departure which was published.

The apology was also extended to The Queen’s former Media Secretary Steve Kingstone who left his position at Buckingham Palace earlier this year.

In July, The Daily Mail published an article claiming that both Ms Osman and Mr Kingstone were to leave their roles at the palace after the Thomas Markle debacle which saw the Duchess of Sussex’s father stage paparazzi photographs and speak to the media uncontrollably.

In actual fact, both Ms Osman and Mr Kingstone’s departures were predated far before the incidents involving Mr Markle occurred.

In full, the correction read: “On 10th July 2018 we published an article with the headline ‘Queen’s two most senior PR chiefs to leave after Thomas Markle debacle sent Royal Family’s media machine into an embarrassing tailspin’.

“Sally Osman and Steve Kingstone have confirmed that their individual and independent departures predated and were unrelated to, any media engagement with Mr Markle.

“We accept their respective positions, and apologise for any misunderstanding or embarrassment.”
