The moment the Platinum Queen could share her Jubilee day with the world

The Queen is now at Sandringham where she will spend the 70th anniversary of her reign.

Her Majesty arrived at Wood Farm on the Norfolk estate on January 23rd 2022, exactly two weeks before her Platinum Jubilee day.

The Queen traditionally spends the anniversary of her accession at Sandringham. It is the place her father, King George VI, died, sometime in the early hours of February 6th 1952. For the beloved daughter who succeeded him, that day is as much about remembering her father as it is about marking her own rule.

She usually spends the day quietly and away from the public gaze. But in 2022, as she becomes the only British Monarch ever to rule for 70 years, we may catch a glimpse of the Platinum Queen. For February 6th is a Sunday and, on that day, there is a service at St. Mary Magdalene Church at Sandringham.

The Queen’s faith is strong, and she often speaks of the importance it holds for her. In recent months, she has worshipped privately, including Christmas Day where she attended service within the walls of Windsor Castle rather than joining some of her family at St. George’s Chapel. However, there is a chance that on this historic day, she will head to a church that holds many poignant memories for her.

For not only has St. Mary Magdalene been the place where she has shared happy Christmases with her family as wellwishers wait to see her. It is also the church where her father’s body rested, ahead of its final journey to London and his State funeral.

There will be huge interest in the day that Elizabeth II, once again, makes history. No one is more aware of the significance attached to that moment that The Queen herself. She may well want to ensure that all those wishing her well at such a moment get a chance to share it with her, even at a distance.

The Queen marks the 70th anniversary of her reign on February 6th 2022. The main events of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations take place in the first days of June 2022.
