The eternal queen of fashion strikes again in 2024: how Queen Letizia just keeps reigning

There can only be one winner in the most stylish royal stakes for 2024 and there’s no alarms and no surprises here. Queen Letizia of Spain can’t help being chic. If she wears it, you will be, too, very soon and every time she steps out, some one sighs at her superlative style. Pick three, you say, from another bumper year? OK, we’ll try but don’t blame us if we’ve left your favourites out – there are just too many to pick from.

A Bourbon revival in Paris

Queen Letizia’s husband is part of the House of Bourbon, the dynasty ruled in France for centuries. And when she arrived for a pre Olympic reception at the Spanish embassy in Paris, Letizia wore her royal house on her chest, quite literally. Spain’s queen chose an outfit from Dior that featured a huge, golden fleur-de-lis – the symbol of the House of Bourbon – on the top.

There was absolutely no missing this nod to the links between Paris and Spain’s current royals. It looked super stylish and it was also a somewhat feisty choice as the organisers had chosen to include a representation of another Bourbon queen, Marie Antoinette, in the opening ceremony – after her execution, carrying her dismembered head around. Letizia kept it real and royal, with fashion.

Winter white wonder

In early December, Queen Letizia joined her husband, King Felipe, on a crucially important State Visit to Italy and wowed in white while she was at it.

The Queen of Spain strode off the plane in Rome in a white trouser suit, covered in a white coat and with a huge white scarf bundled around her neck. Presumably, there was no food served on the flight or Letizia only got changed at the last moment cos this was a stain magnet waiting to happen.

Letizia famously wore a white trouser suit for her engagement announcement and her two daughters, Leonor and Sofia, also chose the same get up for royal debuts of their own. So as well as looking uber elegant, this was also a reminder of the importance of the Queen of Spain in the future of her country’s royal family.

Summer chic

Even when you think Queen Letizia isn’t sending a message with her fashion picks, she goes and surprises you. Enter a rather stunning summer dress that has its own tale to tell.

For a dinner for past winners of the Princess of Girona awards, Queen Letizia wore a sand coloured frock that showed off her already impressive tan to perfection. So far, so glamourous. But this delicate dress is actually from Spanish High Street star, Mango, giving an already impressive firm another fashion boost.
