Princess Grace’s engagement ring to star in sparkling new London exhibition

The diamond engagement ring of Princess Grace will be on show in London as part of a brand new exhibition.

It is one of the highlights of an event on the jewels of Cartier, being staged at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Princess Grace’s ring will be on loan from the Prince’s Palace in Monaco. It is the famous gem that she wore in her big screen appearance, High Society, the final film she completed before her wedding to Prince Rainier.

An aquamarine tiara, one of 27 made in 1937 by Cartier, will be shown in the exhibition

The ring features a 10 carat emerald cut diamond with a smaller baguette diamond on either side.

It was created by Cartier for Grace who married Rainier in 1956.

Other royal jewels on display will include the brooch commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 to feature the Williamson diamond and a rose clip brooch worn to the Coronation by Princess Margaret.

A scroll tiara made in 1902, and worn by two of the most famous women of the last century will also feature. The diamond sparkler in question was used by Clementine Churchill at the Coronation of Elizabeth II and, over sixty years later, by pop star Rihanna.

Cartier became known as the ”jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers’ and the V&A’s exhibition will include works lent by King Charles III.

Ahead of the show, which starts on April 12th 2025, curator Helen Molesworth said ”This exhibition will explore how Louis, Pierre and Jacques Cartier, together with their father Alfred, adopted a strategy of original design, exceptional craftmanship and international expansion that transformed the Parisian family jeweller into a household name.

Rachel Garrahan who also curated the display said ”he V&A is the perfect stage to celebrate the pioneering achievements of Cartier and its transformative ability to remain at the centre of culture and creativity for more than a century.

The exhibition runs from April 12th 2025 until November 16th 2025. Some tickets, priced at £27, have already gone on sale on the V & A site.
