How the royal families of Europe use social media at Christmas

The royal families of Europe use social media to highlight their holiday celebrations from Christmas through the New Year.

Most European royal families reveal their Christmas family photo or Christmas card on social media, but some go above and beyond their counterparts to mark Christmas.

In Denmark, the use of Instagram (and their website) is directed toward their Advent calendar. Each day a new video or photo is released to give the public an insight into their celebrations. For example, one of the videos showed Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary decorating their Christmas tree with their four children. Another video showed the small tree Princess Benedikte decorates each year.

For Sweden, the Royal Family shares images from St Lucia Day celebrations and the heavily anticipated video from the Crown Princess’s family showing them undertaking different events each December. When the Royal Family receives their Christmas tree, this is also shared on social media so the public can feel closer to their celebrations.

Belgium also recently shared a video of the Christmas trees being delivered to the Royal Palace, explaining the trees’ origination. For example, the Province of Luxembourg donated the trees from the King Albert forest this year.

In the Netherlands, the Royal House shared how they erect their Christmas tree in front of the palace just in time for the First Advent.

Whether it is unveiling Christmas cards and photos or special videos of their celebrations, the royal families of Europe make sure to share the festivities with the world.
