All the details of the funeral of the Duchess of Kent and the cathedral where it will take place

Katharine, The Duchess of Kent

Buckingham Palace has confirmed the details for the Duchess of Kent’s funeral to be held on 16 September.

The Duchess of Kent’s coffin will first rest in the private chapel of Kensington Palace. A hearse will then take Her Royal Highness’s coffin to Westminster Cathedral on 15 September.

Both the Rite of Reception (where the priest formally receives the body) and Vespers (the first prayers of the funeral) will be performed; the coffin will remain in the Lady Chapel overnight.

The funeral will be held at 2pm on September 16. The Duke of Kent and his family members will be joined by King Charles and Queen Camilla for the Requiem Mass, as will other members of the Royal Family.

Following the Mass, Her Royal Highness’s coffin will then be taken to the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore in Windsor.

The Duchess of Kent passed away on 4 September at Kensington Palace; she was 92 years old. Following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing on 8 September 2022, she was the oldest living member of the Royal Family.

The Duchess converted to Catholicism in 1994, the first British Royal to publicly convert in over 300 years.
