A Christmas first inside one of the world’s oldest royal castles

The King and Queen will be opening up Windsor Castle beginning in November for festive guests to enjoy an historic holiday season. And for the first time, a miniature royal residence within a residence will get its own Christmas decorations.

Windsor Castle will be officially opened to visitors for the holidays beginning on 21 November 2024 until 6 January 2025.

Although the almost thousand year old castle is impressive on its own, the Royal Collection Trust have planned an elaborate holiday celebration for visitors to enjoy.

There will be a twenty foot Nordmann Fir tree grown in the Windsor Great Park, complete with royal decorations, in St. George’s Hall.

The Crimson Drawing Room in the Semi-State Rooms will have its own decorated tree, a particularly special part of the tour as the room is still used by the Royal Family today.

There will also be a third festive tree in the Undercroft Cafe for guests to admire while enjoying some festive treats.

Visitors of all ages will be able to learn about Victorian Christmas traditions in the Learning Centre between Sunday, 22 December and Sunday, 5 January.

Queen Mary’s Dollhouse will also be getting the Christmas treatment. For the first time in its history, the dollhouse will have its own holiday decorations including a to-scale Christmas tree and garland. These decorations mark the end of the 100 year anniversary of the dollhouse.
