Willem-Alexander & Máxima in India: State Visit Day One Diary

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima have been invited for a state visit to India by President Ram Nath Kovind. The visit will take place from 14 October until 18 October. The state visit will focus on the good relations between India and The Netherlands. Special attention will be paid to water technology, maritime developments, health, sustainable agriculture, social initiatives and cultural heritage. Here’s what to expect from the first day:

The state visit will begin in New Delhi where Their Majesties will be received by President Ram Nath Kovind and his wife Savita Kovind in the Presidential Palace (Rashtrapati Bhavan). After a welcome ceremony, they will visit the Raj Ghat monument, a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, where they will scatter flowers. Following this, the royal couple will meet with the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the afternoon, the couple will visit the Barapullah Drain, and the visit will focus on the cooperation between The Netherlands and India where it concerns water technology and water purification. After this visit, a meeting will take place with Vice President Venkaiah Naidu. This busy day will end with a state banquet at the Presidential Palace where both President Kovind and King Willem-Alexander will hold a speech.
