Texas to welcome Crown Princess Mary of Denmark

Crown Princess Mary is heading to Texas with a Danish business delegation next month, hitting Austin and Houston to promote culture, innovation, and green energy.

Crown Princess Mary will be in the United States from 10 to 13 March, and will be accompanied by Mette Bock, Denmark’s Minister for Culture.

In Austin, Crown Princess Mary will attend the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW), an internationally acclaimed gathering of leaders in film, interactive media, and music to showcase the latest in their industries and attend conferences.

Crown Princess Mary will attend events held at the House of Scandinavia, which, according to its official website, is a “dynamic physical manifestation of Scandinavian philosophy, culture and business” and is designed to feature the best of Scandinavia.

Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture have made a concerted effort to push Danish culture in the United States over the past few years with Crown Princess Mary’s help: last year she visited Seattle to open the Nordic Museum.

According to the Royal House, Crown Princess Mary’s efforts will be focused on leading a “Danish cultural promotional effort focused on Nordic values and competencies in the areas of innovation and the creative industries.”

The House of Scandinavia will showcase the Scandinavian approaches to “better solutions and Societal, Economical and Environmental improvements” as well as “a shared appetite for innovation, cultural curiosity, creativity, equality, and sustainability, in all its aspects.”

Following her visit to Austin, Crown Princess Mary will visit Houston to promote programs under a theme of green energy and life science.

Crown Princess Mary will attend a conference on green energy and “Danish solutions to the world’s climate challenges,” where she will give a speech.

Following this, the Crown Princess will visit the Texas Medical Center—the largest hospital complex in the world—to launch new programming collaborations between Texas and Denmark.

Crown Princess Mary’s last engagement in Houston will be to open a Danish jewellery exhibition at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.

Before departing the United States, Crown Princess Mary will attend a gala dinner at the Danish Embassy in Washington, DC, hosted by the Consul General of Denmark in Houston.

A full schedule will be released by the Royal House at a later date.
