The Swedish royals dazzled last night at the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony in Stockholm. King Carl Gustaf handed out the prestigious award to the winners in the ceremony.
The Nobel Prizes are awarded each year in the Swedish capital, with the exception of the Nobel Peace Prize, which is award is Oslo, in the presence of the Norwegian royals. Each recipient, or laureate, receives a gold medal, a diploma and a sum of money. The prize is currently set at 8 million SEK ($1.2 million, €0.93 million, £0.6 million).
The Swedish royals were on par last night. It was the first outing to the Nobel Awards ceremony as a Princess for Princess Sofia, who married Prince Carl-Philip in June of this year. She wore her wedding tiara. Princess Madeleine was accompanied by her husband Christopher O’Neill, who carries no titles and remains a private citizen. She wore the Swedish Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara, which belongs to her aunt.
The Nobel Prize in Physics 2015 was awarded jointly to Takaaki Kajita and Arthur B. McDonald for the discovery of neutrino oscillations, which shows that neutrinos have mass. This year’s Chemistry prize was awarded jointly to Tomas Lindahl, Paul Modrich and Aziz Sancar for mechanistic studies of DNA repair. The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2015 was awarded with one half jointly to William C. Campbell and Satoshi ?mura for their discoveries concerning a novel therapy against infections caused by roundworm parasites and the other half to Youyou Tu for her discoveries concerning a novel therapy against Malaria. The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2015 was awarded to Svetlana Alexievich for her polyphonic writings.
The most prestigious award, the Nobel Peace Prize, this year was awarded to the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet for its decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy in Tunisia in the wake of the Jasmine Revolution of 2011. The Prize in Economic Sciences was awarded to Angus Deaton for his analysis of consumption, poverty, and welfare.

King Carl-Gustaf, Queen Silvia, wearing the Nine Prong Tiara, Crown Princess Victoria, wearing the Connaught Tiara, and Prince Daniel took place on the stage for the ceremony, where the King handed out the prizes. The winners are required to give a lecture on a subject relating to the topic of their prize, but this usually happens in the week before the awards ceremony.
The ceremony always takes place on the 10th of December, as it is the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death.
