King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden were later royal guests at the 2024 Summer Olympics with their Monday, 5 August arrival. They are making the most of their time in Paris, though, and are busy supporting Swedish athletes. And they timed their visit to perfection as they were in Paris to see perhaps the most famous record breaking performance so far in the athletics.
The Swedish king and queen started their time in Paris by meeting gold medalist Sarah Sjöström, one of Sweden’s most celebrated athletes at the Paris Olympics.
Sjöström won the gold medal in the 50-metre freestyle swimming event on Sunday evening, just barely missing her 2023 world record. She also won the gold medal for the 100-metre freestyle swimming event on Wednesday evening.

Both Carl Gustaf and Silvia were shocked as they watched the events unfold. (Although he did not earn a medal, he and his horse were cleared afterwards.)
