Crown Princess Victoria concludes Paris visit at Notre-Dame

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Swedish Institute in Paris

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden has brought her official trip to France to a close with a visit to Notre-Dame.

The Crown Princess was given a guided tour to see the work of rebuilding the cathedral since the fire in April 2019. In 2019, Notre-Dame suffered extensive damage after fire broke out on the roof. Notre-Dame’s spire caught fire and it collapsed along with larger parts of the roof.

Afterwards, the Crown Princess visited the Swedish Student Home in Paris. The home was built in 1931 and annually receives almost 100 students and researchers who are in need of housing. During the visit, the Crown Princess talked to some of the Swedish students who live at the dormitory. Afterwards, the Crown Princess listened to a concert with the pianist Mattias Nilsson together with three music students who live at home. The music students were from Tunisia, Brazil and Sweden.

From December 5 to December 7, Crown Princess Victoria has been visiting Paris. The program included visits to the Swedish Institute’s 50th anniversary, meetings focusing on collaborations between Swedish and French business and the Swedish Student Home’s 90th anniversary. The Crown Princess began her Paris visit at the Swedish Institute in French capital, which is celebrating 50thi anniversary this year. The institute was inaugurated in 1971 by the King, who was then Crown Prince.

During her visit to Paris, Her Royal Highness stated: “As a representative of a family with French heritage, I take extra pleasure in visiting France and Paris. I have warm memories from actually staying at the Swedish Institute during my internship at the Swedish Export Council in Paris, as well as from different visits at this magnificent cultural centre”.

The Swedish royal house of Bernadotte has French roots. The founder of the royal dynasty, King Carl Johan, was born a French citizen and served as a field marshal under Napoleon before he was elected crown prince of Sweden and became king of both Sweden and Norway in 1818.
