Princess Benedikte reveals Christmas plans at concert

Princess Benedikte of Denmark has attended a Christmas concert in Holmen’s Church in Copenhagen.

Upon arrival, the Princess was received by tenor and conference Jens-Christian Wandt and organist at Holmen’s Church, Jakob Lorentzen. The Christmas concert offered both solo and instrumental elements as well as choir singing and community singing.

Holmen’s Church’s Vocal Ensemble sings at the Royal House’s ceremonies in Holmen’s Church and in Christiansborg Castle Church and sang at Prince Henrik’s funeral, Prince Christian’s baptism, Queen Margrethe’s government anniversary and Queen Ingrid’s funeral. The choir also sings at the opening of the Danish Parliament, at the official flag day, at the Minister of Church Affairs’ Christmas concert for the Folketing and at a large number of events in the Danish Military.

Princess Benedikte also spoke about her Christmas plans to the press at the concert on December 6th 2021. During the event, she was asked where she will be celebrating Christmas this year. With a big smile, Princess Benedikte confirmed that she was celebrating the traditional holiday with her eldest daughter, Princess Alexandra, and her husband, Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille at the idyllic Egeskov Castle. Her Royal Highness said: “I will this year celebrate Christmas with my daughter and son-in-law at Egeskov Castle”.

Egeskov Castle is located in Kværndrup south of Ringe in Denmark and is a castle with a moat. The castle is dated to the 15th century, but the buildings that today make up the castle are dated to 1554. According to a myth, an entire forest was taken down to get enough timber for the construction. In total, there are 66 rooms, 200 windows and 60 shards. The castle has belonged to the Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille family since 1784. Egeskov was protected by law in 1918.
