Princess Sophie of Romania presents prestigious award

Princess Sophie of Romania presented the Best Play of the Year Award to Mihai Ignat at the 30th UNITER Gala in Bucharest on Monday. The Romanian Princess was present in the Great Hall of the National Theatre in Bucharest to attend the Romanian Theatre Union Gala Award Ceremony. Her Royal Highness took part in the gala alongside the Romanian Presidential Adviser and the Romanian Minister of Culture.

The Princess presented the award for “The Best Romanian Play of the Year” to the writer Mihai Ignat for the play, The Snoring Princess. The entire broadcast was broadcast live on one of Romania’s largest television channels.

The UNITER Awards Gala started in 1991, and the award for the best song of the year was awarded, without interruption, for the past thirty years. It is one of the most important national Romanian competitions. From 1992 to 2006, the award was supported by the Royal Margaret Foundation of Romania. Since 2006, the award is under the patronage of the Royal Family of Romania.

The event is organised by The Romanian Association of Theatre Artists, which is a professional, apolitical, non-governmental and non-profit organisation resulting from the free association of artists from the theatre industry. UNITER was founded in February 1990, and it has had a continuous activity for 30 years.

Princess Sophie of Romania is the fourth daughter of King Michael I and Queen Anne of Romania. She was born at Tatoi Palace in Decelea, then the Kingdom of Greece in exile in 1957. Her Royal Highness was educated in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Princess Sophie has exhibited her photography for a number of years and has held exhibitions in France and Romania. In addition, she took part in the Royal Bridges Art Exhibition in Dubai in 2016.

She currently resides in Romania.
