King Harald leaves hospital after week long treatment for an infection

King Harald of Norway has been discharged from hospital after a week of treatment for an infection.

The Royal Court made a short announcement on May 15th 2023. It stated that ”His Majesty The King has now been discharged…The King remains on sick leave.”

King Harald’s next scheduled engagement is on May 17th 2023. However, the statement said that a decision on whether he would go ahead with that would be taken the day before.

The King, who is 86, was admitted on May 11th 2023 with an infection. The heir to the throne, Crown Prince Haakon, stepped in to host a State Visit from Italy the following day, joining Queen Sonja to welcome President Mattarella and his daughter, Laura, who is First Lady of Italy.

King Harald’s last public engagement was on May 2nd 2023.
