King Harald and Queen Sonja to visit Nordland

The Norwegian royal court confirmed yesterday in a press release that this year’s annual county-tour will go to Nordland-county which is in the north of Norway.

Their Majesty The King and Queen will visit Nordland from 12 to 14 June. The visit will include a visit in the municipalities of Sørfold, Steigen, Røst, Værøy and Moskenes. The Norwegian royal yacht “Norge” will be used during this year’s journey.

King Harald and Queen Sonja will kick off their visit in Straumen on the morning of 12 June. In Sørfold the royal couple will be present at a folk festival at Straumen School. The royal couple will greet some of the municipality’s elderly. In the sports hall at the school, the royal couple will participate in the daily work at the school.

That afternoon the King and Queen will arrive on Engeløya. At Vollmoen, the municipality has been invited to a great folk party with a varied program of art and culture. In the evening, the royal couple is going to be present at a dinner that the municipality of Steigen hosts.

The program on Wednesday 13 June starts at Røst, where there will be a big event. The royal couple will hear parts of the Querini Opera. Following this, His Majesty the King will meet representatives of the municipality’s business community. The visit to Røst will end with a visit to Røst church, where the King and Queen will sign a stone to commemorate the historic visit.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Royal yacht “Norway” will sail on to Værøy. The main event here will be held in the brand new and modern kindergarten, which is officially opened during the visit of the monarchs. The royal couple will also hear about the local fish production, which is an important business for the whole Norway. The evening ends with a official dinner.

On the last day of the county-visit, the royal couple will visit Reine municipality. The municipality has invited to a large cultural party in the main square who has a great view to the characteristic Reinebrinken-mountains. After visiting Reine, the King and Queen will travel on to Sakrisøy to visit the company “Anitas Seafood” and meet represents of the business community on the island. The last event of the last day will be a reception aboard the royal yacht hosted by the King and Queen. Here, the county council of Nordland will be in attendance.
