Crown Prince Haakon of Norway is a good luck charm for Norwegian athletes as he continues his Olympic adventures.
Crown Prince Haakon was at a tense and exciting handball match as the Women’s Handball team faced off against their Nordic neighbours, Denmark. Although Denmark had a very strong first half, the Norwegian side was able to claim a 25-21 victory.
Norway will now be facing the Olympic host, France, in the Women’s Handball final on Saturday for the Gold Medal.
Denmark and Sweden will be playing for bronze; it has not been announced if King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, King Frederik, or Queen Mary will be attending.
Crown Prince Haakon headed to the locker room after the match to congratulate the team on their hard-fought victory and to take a photo with the victors.
The Crown Prince is currently in Paris solo. Crown Princess Mette Marit had originally planned to be in Paris with him and had several different competitions lined up on her schedule. However, her son from a previous relationship, Marius Borg Høiby, was arrested on 4 August on suspicion of assault and she chose to stay back in Norway.
The Norwegian Royal Family did not confirm whether she would be able to join the Crown Prince in Paris later.
