Could Princess Martha Louise be about to lose her title?

Princess Martha Louise of Norway

Norwegian press has reported that several meetings have taken place at the Royal Palace in Oslo in the past weeks where Princess Martha Louise’s title has been discussed. King Harald, Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Martha Louise are said to have been present. Now there are questions over whether Princess Martha Louise will keep her title.

Princess Martha Louise stopped being “Her Royal Highness” in 2002, and in 2019 the Norwegian Royal House announced that, in consultation with the family, she had decided to no longer use the title of princess in commercial contexts. According Norwegian press, the meetings took place before Martha left for Canada, which, according to a post on Instagram, she was in a week ago.

The Norwegian Royal Palace’s head of communications, does not wish to comment on the matter and states that they do not usually comment on such matters. Princess Martha Louise’s manager, Carina Scheele, states that they won’t be making a comment, either.

In recent months, there have been strong criticisms around Märtha Louise and her fiance, Durek Verrett, partly because of Verrett’s statements. Among other things, he has previously said that he got rid of coronavirus with the help of a medallion, which he sells on his website for over 200 US dollars. He has also previously stated that cancer is a self-inflicted disease.

Earlier this autumn, the Norwegian TV-channel NRK revealed that the Norwegian Epilepsy Association has ended its collaboration with Princess Martha Louise. They did so, among other things, as a result of the criticism surrounding Verrett. A short time later, the Association for Muscular Dystrophy also chose to break with the princess.

In the wake of the news, King Harald and Queen Sonja commented for the first time on Princess Martha Louise’s choice of partner. Then King Harald said they noticed a “cultural clash”.
