The Dutch Royal Family has returned to work, with the first official engagement taking place since the death of Princess Christina earlier this month.
Princess Beatrix attended the opening of the 79th session of the Institut de Droit International (IDI) in the Grand Courtroom of the Peace Palace.
Beatrix, formerly Queen of the Netherlands, was the elder sister to Princess Christina who died on August 16 at the age of 72 after suffering
A private funeral service took place last week in The Hague where she was cremated.
Christina was the aunt of the current King of the Netherlands. She is survived by her three children and five grandchildren.
Princess Christina was born on 18 February 1947 as the daughter of the future Queen Juliana, who reigned from 1948 until her abdication in 1980, and Prince Bernhard. Her eldest sister, Beatrix,
Christina was born nearly blind because her mother contracted rubella while pregnant with her. Princess Christina was one of four sisters. She married Jorge Guillermo in 1975, and they went on to have three children together: Bernardo, Nicolás and Juliana. The couple divorced in 1996.
She renounced her rights to the succession upon marriage and converted to Catholicism in 1992.
Princess Christina was a singer and also focused on dance and sound therapy.
