Princess Alexia to join important event for first time

Princess Alexia of the Netherlands is set to attend an important event for the first time this year.

The Princess, who is second in line to the throne behind her sister, will be in attendance at Prinsjesdag (Prince’s Day) on 19 September alongside King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, Princess Amalia, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien.

This will be the first time the 18-year-old will be seen wearing the Order of the Netherlands Lion publicly since her father, the King, bestowed it on her for her 18th birthday in June of this year.

Prinsjesdag takes place annually on the third Thursday of September. It is the opening of the Dutch Parliament, the States General, where the King gives his Speech from the Throne explaining the government’s plans for the next year.

It takes place at the Koninklijke Schouwburg in The Hague, and the Royal Family will make a balcony appearance at Noordeinde Palace after the Speech from the Throne.
