King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and their daughters Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange, Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane have posed for their annual summer photos. This photocall is part of an agreement that allows the royals’ privacy for the rest of the year. They also pose at their annual winter holiday – usually at Lech in Austria.

This is the first year that the current Royal Family has posed in front of Huis ten Bosch – having moved in earlier this year after extensive renovations. They used to live in Villa Eikenhorst in Wassenaar. However, this isn’t the first time that a summer photoshoot took place here. In 1981, then Queen Beatrix moved to Huis ten Bosch and several photocalls took place in the backyard next to the pond with her husband Prince Claus and their three sons Prince Willem-Alexander, Prince Friso and Prince Constantijn.

Earlier today, King Willem-Alexander also posted a photo on Instagram he had taken himself. The photo shows the teachers of the Bloemcampschool singing a farewell song to the students sitting on the ground. All three of the Princesses have attended the school, and Princess Ariane is now the last to leave it. She will join her sisters at the Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet in The Hague after the summer holidays. Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet is an independent Protestant school with over 700 students in the capital of the province of South Holland. Princess Laurentien, the wife of King Willem-Alexander’s brother, Prince Constantijn, also attended the school when she was a child.
While the three Princesses are in school, their lives are considered to be private, and the Dutch King and Queen have specifically requested that the press should respect their private lives.
