Dutch King and Queen set to visit US

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima are headed state-side this fall, with a working business visit to California and Texas added to their diaries.

From 6-9 September, the Dutch royals will visit San Francisco, the Silicon Valley, Dallas and Houston in an economic visit to support Dutch businesses and encourage partnerships with their American counterparts.

According to the Dutch Royal House, “The working visit underlines the excellent economic relations between the Netherlands and California and Texas. During the visit, transatlantic cooperation, climate change, energy transition and health care will be central.”

The Dutch royals will be accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport, the Minister of Education, Culture and Science, the Minister of Economic Development of Curaçao, and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.

The Dutch Royal House has also announced that a parallel visit will occur while King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima are in the United States, with companies and institutions from the Life Sciences and Health and Urban Mobility and Cycling sectors visiting San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Further details of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima’s visit will be released closer to the dates.

Queen Máxima visited Washington D.C. and New York in March in her role as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, discussing financial inclusion and recovery following the coronavirus pandemic.

The Dutch Queen also routinely visits the United States in September of each year to participate in the United Nations General Assembly, which, this fall, will run from 13-27 September.

Queen Máxima has served as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development since 2009. In this role, she advises the UN Secretary-General on ways to make finance inclusive and how to create access to finance and financial services for low-income groups and small businesses worldwide.
