luxembourg

Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg and his wife Grand Duchess Maria Teresa are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary today. For the occasion, they have released several new images.

The then Hereditary Grand Duke Henri married Maria Teresa in a civil ceremony at the Grand Ducal Palace on 14 February before heading to the church for a religious ceremony. They said their vows at Notre Dame Cathedral with their families, foreign royals and government officials in the cathedral while thousands of others watched on television or in the streets.

Maria Teresa wore a custom Balmain gown and her new mother-in-law, Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte, loaned Maria Teresa her Belgian Congo Diamond Necklace Tiara to wear. Henri wore his black military uniform with the Order of the Gold Lion orange sash. The Archbishop of Luxembourg, Jean Hengen, officiated the Roman Catholic ceremony.

The couple went on to have five children: Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg (born 1981), Prince Félix (born 1984), Prince Louis (born 1986), Princess Alexandra (born 1991) and Prince Sébastien (born 1992). They also have five grandchildren.
