King Felipe has resumed his agenda of activities after the summer break, and after saying goodbye to his elder daughter, who went back to the UK for her second year of study at UW Atlantic.
Dressed in his uniform, with the Commander in Chief sash, the Spanish King welcomed two groups of military personnel; the first was composed of Lieutenants General and an Admiral reserve. The second was made up of Captains and Colonels who are due to assume the command of various military units in the very near future.
The first to be granted audiences were a Lieutenant General of the Air Force and two Lieutenant Generals of the Army that have been designated to assume command of various units, as well as an Admiral who recently became a reservist.
The second group was composed of four Army colonels, one Ship Captain from the Navy, seven Colonels from the Air Force, a colonel of the special Navy forces (Navy Infantry), three colonels from the Civil Guard and 2 colonels of the Military Healthcare Corps.
His Majesty resumed his agenda after the summer break in August, most of which he spent in the Balearic island of Palma de Mallorca, where the Royal Family has their summer residence.
The family undoubtedly enjoyed the opportunity to spend some time all together, after Princess Leonor’s return from Wales, where she is attending UW Atlantic, a school that offers an international programme for the last two years of high school.
The heir to the Spanish throne has recently made her way back to the UK, since on the 31st of August students in their 1st year had their orientation day; some Spanish media reports that the Princess was assigned a 1st year student to mentor, as is traditional to do in the school.
Her return to the United Kingdom means that Princess Leonor will miss her mother’s big day; on the 15th of September, Queen Letizia will celebrate her 50th birthday. It is not yet clear whether or not she will be working, as it has been the case for other birthdays, both hers and her husband’s.
