King and Queen of Spain to make State Visit to Denmark

King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain on their visit to the UK Parliament in 2017

The Queen of Denmark has invited the King and Queen of Spain to make a State Visit to her country

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will be hosted by Queen Margrethe II for a three day trip, running between November 6th and November 8th 2023.

Spanish press had reported the possibility of the State Visit earlier this month and official confirmation has just come from the Danish Court.

The State Visit will focus on strengthening relations between the two countries, as is usual with such events.

However, there are also personal links. Queen Margrethe and King Felipe have family ties. Both are descended several times over from Queen Victoria and from King Christian IX of Denmark. Margrethe’s younger sister, Anne Marie, is the widow of Felipe’s maternal uncle, Constantine II of Greece.
