Queen Margrethe takes Princess Isabella to Easter Day service ahead of confirmation

Easter is a day that brings many Christians to church with a special mindset, and the Danish royals were no exception.

Queen Margrethe is at Marselisborg Palace, following her tradition of spending the Easter holidays in the Aarhus royal residence, and she is scheduled to remain there at least until the beginning of May, when the sailing season for the Royal Yacht Dannebrog is set to begin.

On Easter morning, Her Majesty, Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Isabella made an appearance at Aarhus Cathedral for the traditional service and were greeted by church authorities, who later officiated the holiday service.

Authorities included Bishop Henrik Wigh-Poulsen, who, besides being Bishop of the Aarhus Diocese, is also the Royal Confessor.

The presence of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary’s oldest daughter was not casual, as she is scheduled to receive her confirmation on Saturday, 30 April, in a service officiated by Bishop Wigh-Poulsen in the Frederiksborg Palace Church.

The church has been used as the location of royals’ confirmations for the past century, and, for Princess Isabella, it has an even more special meaning, as it is the church she was christened in July of 2007.

Nine days before, Her Royal Highness will celebrate her 15th birthday, and the public can expect to be treated to a series of portraits being released through the Royal House’s official social media accounts.

Over the past few years, birthday pictures of the Crown Princely Couple’s children were mainly taken by Crown Princess Mary, partly because the global shutdown meant that they had to limit contacts as much as possible and partly because pictures taken by family members are part of the effort pulled by many royals to give their children as normal a childhood as possible.
