Princess Marie continues fight against food waste

Princess Marie of Denmark is happy that the fight against food waste in Denmark is progressing.

Marie shared her thoughts in a Danish documentary “Princess Marie’s fight against food waste” shown on the Danish TV channel DR1 this week. DR1 followed Princess Marie’s fight against food waste publicly and privately at her home in Paris.

In the second part of the documentary shown on 30 November, Marie expressed a certain optimism while cooking with Prince Joachim and their two children.

The Princess said: “Fortunately, the fight against food waste in Denmark is progressing, but we are certainly not finished yet. Eighty-five per cent of Danes are motivated to stop food waste, so where there is a will, there is a way. In addition, the Danes believe that a meal plan can help them throw out less food, and already 40 per cent of Danes make a meal plan in their everyday lives.”

Princess Marie and Prince Joachim are known to make their own meal plans at home in the French capital. That way, they get to utilise their purchased food so well that almost nothing is wasted.

Regarding this, Marie revealed that an old Danish speciality is her own favourite dish. The Princess said: “My favourite dish is roasted Danish pork, but I do not think I am very good at making it yet, so I am a little disappointed in myself.”

Princess Marie of Denmark virtually gave an opening speech earlier this year at the Anti-Food Waste Conference in Beijing, organised by the Danish Embassy in China.

Her Royal Highness attended the conference due to her many years of commitment in the fight against food waste. The Princess has placed particular focus on treating food with respect and the importance of children learning to avoid food waste.

In 2019, Princess Marie gave an interview about food waste to the magazine FEMINA. That year she also published a cookbook to counter food waste.
